Panthers HOME OPENER

The Peninsula Panthers will host the Westshore Wolves in their home opener on Friday, September 7th @ 7:30 pm.  The Wolves will play their inaugural game in the VIJHL the previous Wednesday before they travel to the Peninsula on September 7th. 

The game will have all the excitement of an opener but there are other storylines which will dominate this date on the schedule.  For the Panthers, it will be the first time playing the expansion Wolves.  But the Wolves have added many veterans and the team is expected to compete for one of the top rungs in the tight Southern Division of the VIJHL.  Three veterans who will suit up for the Wolves are former Panthers who were moved earlier this Spring.  20-year-old Josh Bloomenthal who many expected to see wearing the "C" for the Panthers, 19-year-old Chris McDonald and 18-year-old Kayle Ramsay were traded for cash and other future considerations.

"Yes, we moved these three and are only returning four or five veterans, however we will have a lot of size and skill in our opening night lineup," explained Panthers' owner Pete Zubersky.  "We will be going with a young group, perhaps the youngest group in the VIJHL but I expect that we will be in the hunt right away."

The Panthers play their first game on the road on Sunday afternoon, September 9th when they travel to Oceanside to face-off against the Generals.  The Generals were first round victims of the Panthers last February when the Panthers bounced them to the sidelines winning the Best-of-7 series 4-2.
