Tonight marks game 4 in the second round of the 2014 VIJHL playoffs, and with the Comox Valley Glacier Kings taking the win in game 3, the Panthers are trailing the series 2-1 with full intentions to answer back at home.

The on-ice battle between these two teams is inevitably getting heated; 69 penalty minutes were handed out in the 60 minutes of play Saturday night, and the majority of them to our Peninsula boys.  “Ultimately, two of the four Comox Valley goals were from power play, so discipline in staying out of the box is key to the team,” says Head Coach Brian Passmore.  “Needless to say, the 4-0 loss stung, and the three-game suspension of Reece Costain doesn't feel so good either, but there is no stopping these boys.”

The Panthers do not lack in drive, with 39 shots in game 3 and the puck domination that we had two of the three periods, it is obviously not a matter of creating chances, but of capitalizing on them.  We have a stacked team in terms of offence, with a consistent number of players in the league leaders throughout the regular season, and the playoffs are proving no different.

The offence is not all that's lighting up the ice, defence has been key through these playoffs.  Not only are these guys keeping control of the 35+ shots per game, but we are seeing them make plays and rush the net time after time, creating drive for this strong Panthers team.  Cody Breitenstein has been a force to be reckoned with the past few weeks, and there is absolutely no sign of change there.  Not only are Panthers like Breitenstein, Ball and Buchanan setting a solid precedent for this series, but they too are working those league-leading stats just as hard as any forward.

Game 4 is not the game to miss fans; the Peninsula Panthers are geared up and ready to win. Head Coach sums it up for us, "it is time to man up; we fell off the horse now we get back on and ride hard ‘til the death and we are going to do it together as a TEAM."

See you at Panorama Rec Centre, home of the Peninsula Panthers, for puck drop at 7:30pm TONIGHT.
