STEPHENS puts pen to paper with the Wildcats

2012-09-06

David Stephens' days with the Peninsula Panthers have come to a close as he has made the jump to Major Junior Hockey.

David Stephens followed Joe Densmore to Victoria from Whitehorse and like Densmore, his days with the Peninsula Panthers have come to a close.

Densmore was a 20-year-old last season and led the club in scoring and it was late in December that he let team management know that his buddy, Davey Stephens would like to come down and play with the team.  Stephens had played in the WHL with Edmonton as a 16-year-old however injuries had forced him to the sidelines.  Stephens took a bit of time to find his game after his arrival however once the playoffs hit in mid-February he was in top gear.  His performance did not go undetected and in the off-season he was offered a tryout with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.  He had an outstanding camp and was signed earlier this week.

"I received a call from the Wildcats Director of Hockey Operations, Danny Flynn and he advised that he absolutely loved David and his play," explained Pete Zubersky.  "Flynn believes that Stephens has the ability to be a strong player at the Major Junior level and should also be able to land a scholarship playing University hockey.  His older brother went this route and currently plays for St. FX."

The Panthers negotiated a cash settlement for Stephens' playing rights and wish him all the best in his hockey endevours.  "We will be watching his progress closely and are very excited that he was able to garner this opportunity," said Zubersky
