Storm give Panthers first loss of the Season

2023-09-16

#15, 19-year-old Malcolm Fletcher was probably the best Panther on the ice in the 7-0 loss to Campbell River

The Peninsula Panthers were stymied by outstanding goaltending from Campbell River Storm's starter Nick Peters and that made for a quiet bus trip home.

The Peninsula Panthers rolled into Campbell River Saturday night and faced a Storm Hockey Club with an identical 3-0 record.  The Panthers outshot the Storm by a 36-31 count but could not beat the superlative netminding of Storm's 19-year-old veteran Nick Peters.

The Storm led by period leads of 2-0, 4-0, with the final tally being a 7-0 win over the Cats.  Panthers' Starter Tanner Ferrill was replaced in goal after the 7th marker by back-up netminder Silas Currie.

Panthers owner Pete Zubersky sat in the stands for the game and shared his thoughts just outside the arena as the players filtered out:

"I actually thought we had some excellent stretches during the game and generated a multitude of Grade A scoring chances.  Peters at this point in the season in my mind is the best goaltender, and he showed that tonight. Tanner showed some butterflies and I thought there were a couple goals he would like back. But he's a gamer and the next time we come into their barn, we will be looking for a different result."

The road does not get any easier as the Club heads to Mill Bay to face the Kerry Park Islanders on Tuesday night before returning back to the friendly confines of the Panorama Recreation Centre on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. when they host a tough opponent in the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.
