As Peninsula Panthers Head Coach/GM Tyler Stanton put his group through practice Monday night in preparation for Friday night's Home Opener against the visiting and crosstown rival Westshore Wolves, he most certainly had to be thinking about who would be going between the pipes.  Silas Currie was inked on June 1 after Panthers' Owner saw him play out in Cochrane, Alberta in the U-18 Provincial Playoffs last February.  Still looking for another stopper, 18-year-old Tanner Ferrill almost crystalized out of mid-air.  The Panthers had signed Carson Harris from Campbell River and Harris suggested that the Club take a look at his buddy who was thinking about coming back.  Ferrill took a year off between the pipes and elected to play House Hockey up in Campbell River as a forward.  This past Spring he played in a tournament in Whistler and was outstanding.  The North Vancouver Wolfpack Junior A Club were interested in signing him, however Ferrill did not commit.  Stanton was running some ice this past July and Ferrill came down from Campbell RIver and impressed.  The Club committed to him in July and the past couple months have seen Ferrill working at his game to be ready to compete come opening day.

"I have seen him shine one day and let a couple slide past him the next," explained Zubersky.  "But I expected this, to be honest.  With time he will get the consistency we all want from him and I know he wants this as well.  We think he can be one of the best in the League and we are really looking for him to get better and better as the weeks click by and to absolutely be stellar come February."

Ferrill on his signing with the Cats:
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this program. I am really thankful to be given the privilege of playing alongside such a great group of guys. I am looking forward to getting the season going under the amazing ownership and coaching staff this team provides. I am bringing a competitive edge to the team with my fast and athletic style of play."

Stanton was holding his cards close to the vest when asked after Monday night's practice who his starter for the Home Opener would be.  But he was more than willing to share his thoughts on his new goaltender:

"Tanner was identified at a summer hockey tournament in Whistler by our staff. Tanner, stood out incredibly, especially speaking for a guy who did not get the opportunity to play last year due to some intangibles. Tanner is a goalie who will surprise a lot of people. He is calm, quick, and is an incredibly determined individual. With his hard work, he has earned the starter roll in our home opener September 8th. We are very excited to welcome Tanner and his family to our Organization."

Stanton, Ferrill and the rest of the Peninsula Panthers Organization are excited and looking forward to the Home Opener Friday night at 7:30 pm in the friendly confines of the Panorama Recreation Centre.  A Tailgate Party is also planned for Friday shortly after 5:00 pm right outside the sliding doors to the Arena Lobby.  A large crowd is expected.
