Tri-Team Tryout Camp now set for July 23-25

The Peninsula Panthers will not have to wait long to renew a long rivalry with the Kerry Park Islanders.  And they will not be delayed in starting a fresh rivalry with the newest addition to the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League in form of the Lake Cowichan Kraken.  But first, the three teams will team up to host the most uniquie Camp in recent history in Junior Hockey on Vancouver Island.  The Organizations have decided to work together for the common purpose of identifying players ready to crack(en) into the Junior Hockey ranks and will jointly host the "Tri-Team Tryout" Camp on July 23-25 at the Panorama Recreation Centre.

"The idea came to fruition after a number of phone calls, emails and texts between the Kraken, Islanders and our Club," quipped Panthers General Manager Pete Zubersky.  "Luke Armstrong is the new owner in Lake Cowichan and Brandon Cox will be going into his 2nd year as the sole owner in Kerry Park and these two young guys have a lot of fresh ideas.  It did not take long for the fire to get burning once the match was lit."

Tri-Team Tryout is dubbed as perhaps the best opportunity for young would-be Junior hockey players to be seen by a number of Organizations within a three-day period.  Besides the Kraken, Islanders and Panthers, there has already been a committment from two Junior A Organizations to attend and to scout the weekend games.  All players will practice early Friday afternoon with Coaches from the three teams in the VIJHL and will then get their feet wet with a short game on Friday evening.  They will then play two more games on Saturday and a fourth game on Sunday before the weekend festivities draw to a close.  Skate sharpening and sports drinks will be available throughout the three days at no extra cost."

Head Coach Brad Tippett commented on the tryout camp:

"The more we investigated this joint venture the more it made sense to everyone. The players get the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of three Jr. B teams. We have had a number of Western Canada based Jr A teams enquire if one of their scouting staff may attend, which is a huge win for the players and parents.  We may be adversaries on the ice but we are partners in the league. Hopefully this is a start of other collaboration-based events."

The cost of the camp is $315 including GST.  There will be a maximum of 160 players allowed in the camp and once it is filled, players will be placed on a waiting list.  Players are encouraged to act fast to avoid disappointment and send in their details and camp fee ASAP via email to:
