After playing most of his Minor Hockey on the Peninsula, 17-year-old Ethan Ewer ventured to the Major Midget Program over the past two seasons. But he is back on the Peninsula this time around with the Panthers.

Ethan Ewer was not a secret while he toiled in the Peninsula Minor Hockey Association for quite a number of his developmental years.  He took his skills to the Major Midget Program the past two seasons and although he had another year left in Midget, the rugged right-winger has decided to come back to his home barn and play Junior with the Peninsula Panthers.  The youngster has been put on an energy line with veteran Sterling Lyon and Centreman Owen Cox and they have been dynamite together.

GM Pete Zubersky has seen Ewer play a lot over the years and has always liked his game.  But thus far, the General Manager has been a bit surprised by the right winger.

"Early in camp he was wheeling down the right side but always seemed to end up in the corner.  We have wanted him to get to the net and be in a bad mood when he arrives and he has really come around.  I see him using more speed and I have no doubt that he is going to add a physical aspect to the Club.  Ethan has an opportunity to be a special player and with Lyon and Cox, the three could play a huge role on the Club.

Ewer on Ewer:
"I’m excited to be back on the Peninsula with the Panthers after spending my last two seasons with the South Island Royals. I grew up in Central Saanich and played most of my minor hockey with the Peninsula Eagles. I am a player who works hard and has lots of grit to give. You will see a hard-working two-way forward that gives it their 100% all the time.

I have been attending the Peninsula Panthers games for many years and remember skating with the Panthers as the “Player of the Week”. I have always wanted to be a Panther and do my part to try and help win the VIJHL league and then go on and compete for the Cyclone Cup. We have a great group of guys this year that are likeminded and skilled, which is why I think we have a great shot at the VIJHL title.

We have a great coaching staff as well as a great owner. Head coach Brad Tippet is a very knowledgeable coach, that is why the team had such great success last season. One reason the Panthers are successful is because the saying Brad goes by which is 'Do your job.'  This is a very small saying/quote, but the meaning is very strong, 'Do your job' is pretty simple.  Everyone does their job whether it’s playing on D or when they are in the offensive zone. If everyone does their own job and the mistakes are minimal, it limits the other teams' ability to get chances and goals.
I am looking forward to starting the season with the Panthers and chasing after the Cyclone Cup."

Tippett on Ewer:
"Don’t let Ethan’s some spoken demeanor fool you. He has the 4 S’s – Skill, Speed, Size and “Scaracter”. He takes the shortest path to puck regardless who or what is in the way. He seems to have found chemistry with Sterling Lyon and Owen Cox. Ethan has a strong work ethic on and off the ice. I can see his role just getting bigger and bigger as the season wears on."
