Tanner Wort had three goals and a helper and linemate Riley Braun scored once and had three assists to pace the Peninsula Panthers to a 7-5 win on home ice at the Panorama Recreation Centre on a clear and crisp Friday evening.  And linemate Josh Lingard skated miles and was rewarded with an assist on the Braun power play marker but he could have had a mittful of points as well.  Defenceman Skyler Diamond Burchuk seemed to make the right pass all night long and he chipped in with four assists.  Defencemen Stefan Grunert and Matthew Seale added single tallies as well while Chris Combiadakis making his first start in a few weeks picked up the win blocking 27 of 32 shots along the way.

Head Coach Brad Tippett on the game.  "We saw more glimpses of our real team tonight. I thought the entire room was ready and we seemed to have our jump back. A stick penalty 2 minutes in stopped us in our tracks early but Combiadakis made 4-5 great saves to keep the game scoreless. That penalty does however not allow us to get an early shift for everyone and that zaps any momentum we had coming out of the gate. He held us in there and at one point we were down 8-0 on the shot clock. But we gradually got things going. The second period we had a couple brain cramps and a couple bad bounces putting us down going a goal at 4-3 into the third. The final period was obviously our best. The “Coneheads” ( Lingard, Wort and Braun) had jump all night and their power play unit was clicking whenever the chances presented themselves.  It was really good for Chris to pick up another win. The schedule was a little weird and he was a couple weeks between starts. He gave us a chance to win tonight and we finally put the Braves away late."

Scoring for the visiting Braves were Joe Stafford-Veale with two markers while singles came off the sticks of Fraser Auchterlonie, Avery Hargit and Jack Groves.  Braves' netminder Robert Michetti blocked 32 of 39 Panthers shots.  Stafford-Veale and Wort were selected as the Players of the Game.

The "Cats" head to Comox Saturday evening and then will be back to the friendly confines of the Panorama Recreation Centre next Friday night when they will welcome in the Nanaimo Buccaneers for their 2nd and final visit of the regular season.
