The Peninsula Panthers used their last exhibition game at home Friday night as the final tune-up before they open for real in one week at home against the visiting Saanich Braves.

The Peninsula Panthers knocked off the visiting Westshore Wolves 5-1 Friday evening in the friendly confines of the Panorama Recreation Centre to close the book on their Exhibition Season.  And it will be for real next Friday night at 7:30 pm when they host the visiting Saanich Braves for their Home and Season opener.

Josh Lingard and David Edgar each notched two markers in the win, while Fraser Auchterlonie chipped in with a single tally.  Edgar and Auchterlonie each had a helper in the win.  Chase Klassen, who recently was released by the Alberni Valley Bulldogs after having an outstanding camp, was the lone marksman for the visitors.

Connor McKillop went the distance between the pipes for the Panthers and was full value for the win while Jacob Haydar played the full 60 minutes for the Wolves and was collared with the loss.

The Panthers were missing Matt Sparrow, Tanner Wort, Logan Speirs, Jonah Ragsdale and Stefan Grunert for the contest.  Grunert is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury while the other four will be ready to go for the opener.

"It was a good opportunity to knock off some rust," explained Pete Zubersky.  "We are all pleased that the boys have now arrived into town and we are looking forward to a good week of practice after the long weekend and also looking forward to welcoming in the Braves on Friday.  The South will be a lot of fun this season and it all starts on Friday."

A large crowd is expected for the opener on Friday, September 6th.  Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
