David Edgar was inked by the Peninsula Panthers late in July, one of two 16-year-old who will be welcomed onto the squad for the 2018/19 Season.

David Edgar was recently inked by the Peninsula Panthers and will open the 2017/18 season with the Club as one of the two 16-year-olds which is allowed by the rules of BC Hockey.  And the Panthers brass could not be any happier.

"David practiced with our club on a number of occasions last season and we popped him into the lineup for two games in the regular season last year," explained Pete Zubersky.  "He was a youngster - only 15 years old at the time - but he was gritty and his game was not timid.  I know Coach Brad Tippett really liked him right away and he played some significant minutes in the two games that he played.  The kids in our dressing room respected how hard he played and that means a lot to Brad.  He came to camp in April and we waited a bit to finally add him, but we are pretty happy about the way things worked out and I think his family and David are as well.  Fans on the Peninsula are really going to love his style of play."

Edgar started playing hockey at the tender age of five in the Saanich Minor Hockey Association and played at the rep level throughout his time in SMHA.  And it was last year where he moved onto the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy, playing on the Elite 15 squad.  He made the BC Under 15 team and made it to the final selections of the BC Under 16 team which took place in Salmon Arm.  Edgar attended the Victoria Royals WHL camp last season and has been asked and will attend that same camp once again this year at the end of August.

Edgar's mother, Laura Peltier previously worked for the Saanich Braves Junior Hockey Club as the game day coordinator, however stepped down at the end of last season in order to be in a position to follow David.  Clint Peltier is David's stepfather.

David was excited to join the Panthers and had a huge smile before the ink was dry.  "I have always felt part of the team with the Panthers, the players have always welcomed me and made me feel comfortable on the ice and in the dressing room.  Pete and Brad have always supported my decisions and I really appreciated that.  I'm so looking forward to being on the Panthers for this coming season and I appreciate the continued support from Brad and Pete.  I am really looking forward to having a great season this year."

Coach Tippet believes that Edgar will bring some bite to the lineup even though he is only sixteen and added, "David is one of those players that can bring energy to a club and we saw that when he was inserted into the lineup last season.  Our returning players respect him and it will be comfortable for him to walk into the room and not miss a beat."

The Panthers' Home Opener is slated to go on September 7th at 7:30 pm when the Westshore Wolves come to town.  And for Edgar, it will be crunch time!
