It took until midway through the season but Panthers' Head Coach Brad Tippett has finally settled on three-year veteran, 20-year-old Ty Hermsen. Hermsen will wear the "C" on Friday night in Saanich and at home on Saturday evening.

The Peninsula Panthers have finally found their man!  Twenty-year-old Ty Hermsen, a three-year veteran of the Club and former member of the Peninsula Minor Hockey Association was named as the Club's Captain on Thursday afternoon.  Head Coach Brad Tippett did not name a Captain at the start of the season however, Hermsen was the most obvious choice from the get-go.  He is also the only 20-year-old on the squad however, that was not the reason for his selection.

Brad Tippett commented on his choice.  "We went into the season blessed with a number of solid leaders.  It was our intention to let some time pass to allow someone to step forward and grab the reigns.  Over the last month, it was clear that Ty had emerged as that person.  He has tremendous respect from all players and staff.  He has always let his play speak for itself.  Ty plays extremely hard all the time including after a 10-hour day at work and through injuries and illness.  Your Captain should will the other players to play better, to play bigger and to play together, and Ty does that for our team.  He will be wearing the "C" tonight in Saanich and again on Saturday at home and for the remainder of this regular season and playoffs."

Hermsen will be supporting the "C" when the Panthers head to Saanich to face the Braves on Friday night and the Club will be back home on Saturday at 7:30 pm for the back end of the home-and-home series.  That is when local fans will see Hermsen and the new addition to his uniform.  It will also be the first opportunity fans will have to see the newly-signed Gavin Yee who will be back with the squad for the remainder of the season.
