The Westshore Wolves scored into an empty net on Wednesday evening in Colwood to put the final touches on a 5-3 win and put the final nail in the Panthers' coffin.

The Peninsula Panthers and Westshore Wolves played an entertaining affair on Wednesday evening at the Q-Centre and although the game was up for grabs, it would be the Wolves who would capture the all-important two points on the night.

The game went back and forth however, when a Wolves forward scored into the empty Panthers net for the insurance marker, it was all that was needed to seal the 5-3 win for the home squad.

Scoring for the Panthers were Jack Taylor, Marshall Brown and Cianan Briscoe - all on the powerplay - while defenceman Thomas Spink picked up two helpers.

"It was a hard-fought game," explained Head Coach Brad Tippett.  "We played well enough to win and just sloppy enough to lose.  We had good goaltending tonight and did a lot of things right in other areas.  A couple of coverage mistakes and a couple of untimely gambles allowed two points to slip away.  Special teams were much improved.  We had three power play goals but could not seem to establish any long-term pressure.  We are still bobbling passes which slows down the attack and that in turn allows the penalty killers to adjust and reset."

The Panthers host the Kerry Park Islanders on Friday night in a very important South Division game matchup.  Puck drops at 7:30 pm.
