Loverock takes lion's share of hardware at Panthers Awards Banquet

Over 100 players, family, friends and fans attended the Peninsula Panthers annual Awards Banquet on Saturday night at the Glen Meadows Golf and Country Club and an enjoyable time was held by all.  Captain Spencer Loverock accepted four different awards on the evening and highlighted an action-packed agenda.  The following awards were passed out on the evening:

1.  Volunteer of the Year - Jason Fletcher
2.  Steve Simpson Memorial - Courage, Character & Heart - Ben Meyerink
3.  Top Scorer - Cam Thompson
4.  Community Leadership - Spencer Loverock
5.  Fan Favourite - Spencer Loverock
6. Unsung Hero - Ben Dawson & Drayson Lum
7.  Most Improved - Shawn Parkinson & Josh Poland
8.  Most Sportsmanlike - Trevor Owens
9.  Rookie of the Year - Cam Thompson, Ryan Warner, Marty Westhaver
10. Best Defenceman - Spencer Loverock
11. Most Valuable Player - Spencer Loverock
12.  Top Playoff Performer - T.B.A.

On Sunday night, Loverock and Thompson were once again front and centre in Saanich at the VIJHL Wild Card game.  During the 1st intermission the League honoured players with individual awards.  Thompson was selected as the League's Top Rookie while Loverock was named the League's Most Sportsmanlike Player and Best Defenceman.

The Panthers are back at work on Monday night in the friendly confines of the Panorama Recreation Centre when they host the visiting Westshore Wolves in Game 1 of the opening round of the South Division Best-of-7 series.  The puck is slated to drop at 7:30 pm.
