2015

The "Taking it To The Street" Charity Event for Help fill a Dream Foundation is set to go for June 11, 2016 at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, B.C.

Dear fans,

Several months ago, Sue Hodgson - who is the owner of Seaside Magazine - invited Coreen and me for a coffee in Brentwood Bay and we gladly accepted.  We met Sue two years ago and have grown to enjoy her monthly publication.  We have also taken keen interest in her community spirit and in her neverending supply of energy.  Sue brought Elizabeth Moss, who works with Sue, along for the meeting.  Mr. Craig Smith, Executive Director of "Help Fill A Dream" Foundation rounded out the meeting and we all sipped on a coffee and enjoyed the conversation.  Before arriving, Coreen and I had no idea how we could help but we both agreed that we would be all ears and hopefully we could add something to this wonderful endeavour.

Sue opened the meeting with the usual introductions and then began to explain what her vision was for this year's "Taking it To The Street" Road Hockey Charity Event scheduled for June 11th, 2016 at the Mary Winspear Centre.  She explained that all monies raised would be in support of the "Help fill a Dream," and we could see the passion as she laid out the plan for this year's event.  Sue wanted to have 30 teams of approximately 10 persons per team and had a goal to raise $30,000. during the event.  Craig Smith was clearly excited about the event.

The "Help fill a Dream" Foundation has some close ties to the Peninsula Panthers Hockey Club.  Our leading scorer this past season was Cam Thompson and he was recently signed by the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL.  His father Doug is the Finance Manager for the Foundation.  Marty Westhaver is a speedy forward and his family has been closely involved with the Foundation.  Marty's brother Jack, who is a regular at Panthers games, had a bout of cancer as a very young child.  The Foundation heard Jack's story and filled his dream when they sent the entire Westhaver family to Disney World in Florida.

As we all spoke, quite often at the same time due to the excitement, if was obvious that we were on the same page.  Coreen and I and the Peninsula Panthers want to help out with this initiative in assisting Sue reach her goal to raise 30k.  Last year's event had eight (8) teams and this time around we want to ensure that thirty (30) teams register and are involved.  We are now in the process of beating the bushes for teams and really want to achieve this goal.  The cost of the event for each team is $300.  Anyone can register a team and we believe it would be a great way to have a "Team Builder" for a business or for any office.
