Panthers announce 2015/16 Regular Season Schedule

2015-07-01

20-year-old Spencer Loverock who last season captured the Best Defenceman award was named the Club's Captain for the 2015/16 season by Head Coach Rob Mortin. Loverock is pictured here last February when Mortin presented him with the hardware.

The Peninsula Panthers released the 2015/16 regular season schedule this evening. The Club will play a 48-game schedule with the opener set for September 4th when they host the Saanich Braves.

A 48-game VIJHL schedule has been released by the Peninsula Panthers this evening.  The Club will open their 2015/16 season on Friday, September 4th when they host their crosstown rival Saanich Braves.  The two teams will head to George Pearkes Arena the following evening to complete a weekend back-to-back opening week series.

The schedule will feature 21 Friday night games with a start time set for 7:30 pm.  They will play a Wednesday afternoon game on the November 11th Remembrance Day Holiday with the puck set to drop at 1:30 pm.  The Peninsula Junior Club will play a Saturday night affair on December 5th rather than playing the night before due to "A Touch of Saltspring" taking over the Recreation Centre on the Friday.  They will return from their Christmas break on Wednesday December 30th when the Team will play host to the visiting Kerry Park Islanders.

"We are pretty happy about our schedule," explained Governor Pete Zubersky.  I love that we have our primary night on Friday's and I think it will be great for the kids to play an afternoon game on November 11th.  Fans will get a chance to watch us on a Saturday night in December and with the game on December 30th I would expect to see a great crowd as people are ready to get out and do something different after sitting at home during the Christmas Break.

In other Panthers news the Club announced that 20-year-old Spencer Loverock will be wearing the "C" for his last season in Junior Hockey.  Head Coach Rob Mortin made the choice several weeks ago and has let the Club know his decision.

"Spencer in my mind is the best Defenceman in the VIJHL," explained Zubersky.  "He is an awesome kid and I believe will be a great leader for a fairly young Club.  Although we will once again be one of the younger squads in the VIJHL, I believe we really have upgraded the roster and also believe we will be in the hunt this time around.  Loverock has been there through the bad times and the good and I know he will take this team and lead right from the opening face-off.

The Club will open a small Main Camp in mid-August.
