The Peninsula Panthers were punted 6-3 by the Kerry Park Islanders on Friday night in VIJHL action. But the Panthers have bigger fish to fry as they host the visiting Oceanside Generals this Monday night in a one-game shootout.

The Peninsula Panthers may have been dropped by the Kerry Park Islanders on Friday night however, their thoughts immediately turned to this coming Monday night at the Panorama Recreation Centre.  The Panthers will host the Oceanside Generals in a one-game Sudden Death affair.  The loser will be punted to the sidelines for the season while the winner will open the best-of-7 playoff series next Wednesday night in Campbell River against the Storm.

The game on Friday was tabbed as Peninsula Minor Hockey Appreciation and the Panthers broke out a 3rd jersey for the game.  The jerseys were a take-off of the Dallas Stars jerseys as two former Peninsula Minor Hockey and Peninsula Panthers grads now play for the Stars - Jamie and Jordie Benn.  After the game was over the Panthers held a quick on-ice ceremony where 23 players from PMHA were gifted the jerseys.

"It was a lot of fun tonight but our thoughts are already focused on Monday night," explained Head Coach Rob Mortin.  "We have our Awards Banquet on Saturday, will take Sunday off and will be thinking about Monday when the Oceanside Generals come to town.  The winner will advance against the Campbell River Storm and so the real hockey starts now."

The Sudden Death game will be held at the Panorama and the puck will drop on February 16th at 7:30 pm.
