The Peninsula Panthers added 19-year-old skilled defenceman Austin Singhera on Wednesday night.

Austin Singhera had a lot of talent two seasons ago when he joined the Peninsula Panthers as a raw 17-year-old defenceman.  But after a stellar rookie year he was forced to step away from the Panthers and the game as he entered his first year in post-secondary education at the University of Victoria.  But the skilled point-getter attended the Peninsula Panthers practice on Wednesday evening and was inked by the Club on Thursday afternoon.  He will not play this evening in a home game against the Nanaimo Buccaneers however, should see his first game action when the Panthers travel to Saanich next Wednesday night when they face off against the Braves.

"We are so happy to have Austin back on the ice and back in our room," said Owner Pete Zubersky.  "We have so many great kids in our dressing room and Austin will only add to that favorable mix that we have going right now.  He will add maturity both on and off the ice and I see him being a real anchor on our power play directing traffic from the back end.  We got a whole lot better today with his addition."

"Last year was my first year in University and hockey had to take a back seat," explained the defenceman.  "I still have five classes but my schedule works perfectly with the Panthers' schedule and so I am pretty happy to be back and playing," said Singhera.

The Panthers face off against the Bucs this evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
