Panthers not done making moves yet - acquire 96F Josh Poland

2014-10-04

'96 forward Josh Poland was acquired by the Peninsula Panthers on Saturday afternoon for future considerations.

It did not take the Peninsula Panthers long to make a move after being edged by the Kerry Park Islanders on Friday night, scooping up forward Josh Poland from the Saanich Braves.

"Scoring has been a bit of an issue for our Club and we are hoping that the addition of Josh Poland will help fill that need just a bit," said Peninsula Panthers' owner Pete Zubersky on Saturday afternoon only minutes after acquiring the talented and speedy forward from the Saanich Braves.

Zubersky and Saanich Braves GM Brad Cook pulled the trigger on the deal which sees Poland now moving his hockey gear out to the Peninsula where he will join the team on Monday evening for practice.  The deal was for future considerations and Zubersky was pleased to add Poland to the roster without having to give up a body.

"We had Josh here as an affiliate player for a couple years and he scored his first Junior goal with us in that capacity.  Last season he notched 11 goals with Saanich as a 17-year-old in 41 games and so I believe he can still score 15-20 with us this season.  Josh has a very late birthday and is not that far off from actually being a year younger and when I look at everything I believe he has a nice upside to him.  The youngster was extremely happy to be coming out here and to get a fresh start - I hope that it ends up being a steal but that chapter has yet to be written.  The 18-year-old was very, very appreciative of the opportunity.  Poland will be in the lineup next Friday night when we host the Nanaimo Buccaneers."

Poland and Zubersky spoke on the telephone on Saturday afternoon and will be speaking again in person this evening in Mill Bay when the Panthers play the back half of the home-and-home weekend series.
